From 1 January until 30 June 2022, France holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is an important opportunity to set the EU’s policy agenda for the next six months, offering the chance to prioritise specific issues and steer negotiations. Alongside this, the Presidency also comes at a critical time for France, with its presidential elections around the corner in April.

France has the task of leading discussions on some of the most controversial issues being discussed at the EU level, setting ambitious objectives for itself across a range of different policy areas.
